The Bosnian-Herzegovinian Film Festival is an annual event which
features award-winning films by emerging Bosnian filmmakers or
filmmakers who have Bosnia and Herzegovina as their theme.
Since its founding in 2003, the Bosnian-Herzegovinian Film Festival
(BHFF™) has attracted significant public attention in New
York City, the Tri-State area and beyond. This vibrant cultural
event, organized annually by the Academy of Bosnia and Herzegovina
and radio Voice of Bosnia and Herzegovina, brings together a wide
spectrum of audiences. Among these are New Yorkers interested
in film, Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Balkan region, human rights
activists, artists, members of academia, international visitors,
members of the growing Bosnian-American community in the United
States and many others as diverse as the city itself.
BHFF™ represents and promotes award-winning Bosnian-Herzegovinian
cinematography and also provides a platform for the international
exposure for emerging Bosnian filmmakers.
Following its debut in 2003, in 2005 BHFF™ moved to larger
premises at the Anthology Film Archives, still maintaining its
presence in East Village. Among festival guests were young Bosnian-Herzegovinian
filmmakers and artists, as well as the director of the Sarajevo
Film Festival, Mirsad Purivatra, and the former Bosnian-Herzegovinian
Ambassador to the United Nations, Dr. Mirza Kusljugic. This second
annual event, which celebrated the accomplishments of Bosnian-Herzegovinian
filmmakers and showcased award winning short and feature films,
was a milestone, making the festival a much awaited tradition
among its audiences. To date, more than 800 people have visited
the festival’s 15 feature, short, and documentary film screenings.
BHFF™ aims to continue its steady growth, by attracting
broader audiences, opening its doors to more Bosnian-Herzegovinian
filmmakers and artists, and becoming a staple event of the New
York’s cultural scene.
The third annual Bosnian-Herzegovinian Film Festival took place
on 19-21 May 2006 at the Anthology Film Archives in New York.
